The mainstay of body contouring in Santa Barbara encompasses the use of abdominoplasty, combined with multiple procedures found below. Dr. Lowenstein uses one or more of these procedures to improve the patient’s form; surgical procedures are tailored to each individual’s needs.
These operations can be performed individually or in a combined fashion, though your safety is always Dr. Lowenstein’s primary concern. Lengthly surgery involving excessive resections at one time may be discouraged in order to keep you happy and safe postoperatively.
An abdominoplasty involves the removal of excess skin in the abdominal area, and often includes tightening the muscles here. A low horizontal incision and an incision around the belly button is used in this procedure. As the most common procedure performed in body contouring, patient satisfaction is remarkably high after abdominoplasty
Lower Body lift
The lower body lift continues the abdominoplasty incision around the sides of the body to the back, and allows for removal of fat and extra skin from the entire midsection. The procedure has the advantage of lifting tissue from the thigh and buttocks, and can leave a narrower waist where there was not much of one before. This operation can be done at the same time as abdominoplasty, but is often staged as a second operation in order to maximize comfort and results.
An arm lift, or brachioplasty, addresses the excess tissue that can appear in the upper arm area. Careful excision of the excess skin and fat of the arm can improve the patient’s ability to fit into clothing, as well as improve general comfort in this area. Although an arm lift can leave a visible scar on the inside of the upper arm, patients find that this is well concealed and often worth the reduction of excess tissue. In selected patients, the modified arm lift confines the scar to only the armpit and usually is combined with liposuction.
A thigh lift is a well-tolerated procedure that can help improve the contour of the medial portion of the upper leg. Often combined with liposuction, this procedure can help refine the leg to a more shapely, youthful appearance. Scarring from the thigh lift is well concealed in the area of the groin, and special attention to maximizing the scarring is performed with strong, deep sutures to create the optimal repair.
