Non-Surgical Skin Tightening in Santa Barbara

Plasma Pen Before and After
When it comes to turning back the clock for your skin, there are numerous options available. But the next level procedure that is able to make a lasting difference on a cellular level is the Plasma Pen, an FDA approved device that is used to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin using fibroblast therapy. By now, everyone has probably heard about the importance of collagen in creating and maintaining a healthy and youthful skin barrier. The loss of collagen as we age is one of the reasons that the skin begins to sag, and lines and wrinkles begin to form. Dermal fibroblasts are the cells that play a key role in the production of collagen in our skin. As we age, skin fibroblasts stop producing collagen and repairing skin damage at the same rate it previously did. The Plasma Pen is a non-surgical procedure that kicks dormant fibroblast cells back into action, providing skin rejuvenating and tightening results that were previously only achievable through surgery. We are pleased to offer this low-downtime treatment as an option for our patients in Santa Barbara, Bakersfield and beyond, who want great, natural looking anti-aging outcomes that last much longer than other non-surgical alternatives.

How Does the Plasma Pen Work?

The Plasma Pen does not use blood plasma – rather, it uses the 4th state of matter, which is ionized gas.  The special technology in this device turns the air into an ionized gas delivery system that allows application of this plasma to the skin in the area to be treated. The device does not actually touch the patient’s skin. The heat energy delivered by the plasma induces controlled “damage” to the upper layer of the skin, inducing a skin healing response, which stimulates the fibroblasts in your dermis to restart collagen production. This controlled energy delivery provides the “sweet spot” of energy to the skin, providing just enough energy to induce collagen and elastin production without the excessive damage that other treatments such as laser can produce.  The result is an amazing tightening without scarring or pigment issues.  The points on the skin that are treated by the Plasma Pen form small point like scabs, which flake away over the following week to reveal tighter and smoother skin.

Conditions Treated by the Plasma Pen

A Plasma Pen treatment can be used not just to tighten loose skin, but also target unwanted melasma and scars, as well as lines and wrinkles. Instead of a facelift, eyelid lift or neck lift, the Plasma Pen offers a great alternative to going under the knife. While a few days of downtime will be needed to allow your skin to heal, it is far less than the downtime recovered for surgery. Non-irritating makeup can also be used to disguise the treated area, allowing you to get on with your everyday activities soon after the treatment.

Plasma Pen Post Procedure Recovery

A degree of swelling is to be expected with the Plasma Pen, which will subside within 3 to 4 days after treatment. The tiny scabs that occur at each treatment point will begin to flake away several days after the procedure. It is imperative that for at least two weeks after the procedure you apply sufficient sun protection even if it looks cloudy outside. The results from a Plasma Pen treatment are considered permanent, and for most patients one treatment is sufficient to get them the results they want. For more dramatic results, subsequent treatments can be performed 3 months after the preceding treatment, though that is rarely needed.  The plasma pen can turn back the clock on your skin and is effectively a new “reset point” for your appearance. Maintenance of Plasma Pen results may require further treatments in the years after it has been performed.
